Description
—Â
In a city notorious for it s wet climate, it s always nice to have a warm and dry spot to sit out the showers. The Winter Garden, at the People s Palace, has provided just such a shelter since January 1898, when it was opened by the Earl of Rosebury. There s still something magical about the tropical warmth, and deep, loamy smells of the giant greenhouse.
Originally, the ground floor of the People s Palace provided reading and recreation rooms, with a museum on the first floor, and a picture gallery on the top floor.
I wonder if the tree we see being planted here is still thriving on the Green.
